Scanning facilities are vital in modern healthcare, providing crucial diagnostic capabilities essential for effective treatment. Equipped with advanced imaging technologies such as MRI and CT scanners, these facilities play a pivotal role in diagnosing a wide range of medical conditions.

The Hermitage Court Unit A project aimed to enhance diagnostic capabilities and patient care services for the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. BJF Group’s M&E division undertook this project, located in Maidstone, Kent. The goal was to complete the project within 5 months and deliver facilities that met the high standards expected by the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

The project was awarded to BJF Group due to our proven competencies and expertise in delivering HTM compliant facilities, supported by a  longstanding relationship with many NHS trusts

BJF Group handled the complete mechanical installation, which included:

  • HTM compliant Air Handling unit and ventilation system.
  • VRF ( Variable Refrigerant Flow) Air Conditioning Systems
  • Fully addressable smoke and fire damper systems.
  • Building Management System

All work complied with HTM standards, crucial for healthcare environments. The scope remained unchanged throughout the project.

Challenges Faced

Ensuring compliance with Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) standards required careful attention to detail and coordination. HTM standards outline specific guidelines for healthcare facility design, covering engineering, fire safety, infection control, medical gas pipeline systems, and water safety. Our team’s awareness and effective management ensured smooth integration of these standards into the project.

Execution and Results

The project proceeded according to planned milestones and was completed on time and within budget. BJF Group successfully installed the mechanical systems, meeting the project’s objectives and ensuring the new building served the NHS Trust’s needs effectively.

Effective coordination with Gallagher Group, the main contractor, was essential for the project’s success. Efficient teamwork ensured seamless execution of tasks.
