Last year we interviewed brothers Sam and Tom who have taken very similar career paths having both started working at BJF Group as plumbing apprentices at the same time.

For National Apprenticeship Week 2020 we spoke to them to find out how they’re getting on a year later:

What have you been doing since last Year?

Since last year we have been working on a range of exciting projects ranging from high end residential properties to Ministry of Defence Barracks and we are now working on a major Mechanical and Electrical fit out at Hornchurch Leisure Centre. This is a significant project for BJF Group’s Mechanical and Electrical division and we’re really pleased to have been given the opportunity to work on it.

How have your careers progressed?

It has been progressing tremendously well, having finished our NVQ level 2’s we are now getting more hands-on experience with all aspects of plumbing, which includes commercial pipework.

What has been your proudest moment over the last year?

We both passed our NVQ level 2’s in plumbing and Tom also passed his driving test.

What new things have you done/learnt?

We have completed various training courses which include IPAF, First Aid and Asbestos awareness and have also been trained in Viega press fitting – this is a new system taking us away from threaded pipe systems, it is very quick and clean.

What does the next year at BJF Group have in store for you?

We will be carrying on with our training which will include NVQ level 3 qualifications, and learning further skills in plumbing and pipework.
