Don Urquhart, Head of SHEQ at BJF Group has been voted in as Deputy Chair of the South East Branch of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) for the coming two years.
As Deputy Chair Don will be involved with assisting to organise a program of SHEQ topics on a monthly/yearly basis for around 1,600 health and safety professionals around Kent. Attendance at these events is not simply restricted to IOSH Members and all are welcome to attend that have an involvement or interest in Health and Safety in the South East.
Find out more about the IOSH South East Branch and their program of events on their website here.
Don has been an active member of IOSH since joining as a Graduate Member (Grad IOSH) in 2002 and became a Chartered Fellow (CFIOSH), the highest possible category of membership, in 2014.
One of the key activities that Don has been involved with was the setting up of a mentoring program in 2015 at the request of the previous Chair, Gary Beckley. Starting out with 3 participants the program now has over 48 mentees and is promoted at 3 other IOSH branches. The program has been a great success with a number of members upgrading their membership categories including some soon to become Chartered Fellows.
The next step for Don will be to become Chair of IOSH South East and he already has his sights set on applying for the Vice-Presidential position at IOSH in the future.
BJF Group’s Managing Director Barry Foster recognises the benefits of Don’s IOSH activities for the business and so actively supports him in his IOSH duties. On Don’s appointment he said:
“We have seen on many occasions the benefits of having such an experienced and qualified person as a member of our SHEQ team. Don’s involvement with IOSH is something that I fully support. Congratulations to Don on his appointment to Deputy Chair”
